The Drum Winch Built For Boats That Work Harder
Centre consoles, half-cabins, walk-arounds. Boats that go further and stay out longer need a winch that keeps up.
- 1000 / 1500 / 2000 Recommended series
- 14kg to 20kg Anchor weight range
- 7m to 9m Hull length
Why Hull Length Matters
At 7m to 9m you are past the point where a light recreational winch cuts it. These hulls carry more weight, they anchor in deeper water, and they get pushed around by more wind and current. The winch needs more rope capacity, more pull, and a build specified for the water you run in.
Three models cover this range. The 1000 is rated to 7m, the 1500 to 8m, and the 2000 to 10m. Pick the model whose rating is at or above your hull length. If you are between two models, take the larger one.
Which Model Fits Your Boat
Savwinch 1000 series: boats up to 7m (23ft)
377mm wide, 250mm high, 18.85kg. Sits cleanly on most centre console and half-cabin bows. Includes 95m of 7mm double braid rope and 7m of chain.
Savwinch 1500 series: boats up to 8m (26ft)
377mm wide, 300mm high, 20.4kg. The same width as the 1000, with a deeper drum. Includes 95m of 8mm double braid rope and 8m of chain.
Savwinch 2000 series: boats up to 10m (33ft)
419mm wide, 306mm high, 28.25kg. The model for anything above 8m, so a 9m hull sits here rather than on the 1500. Includes 140m of 8mm double braid rope and 10m of chain.
The Classic Series is built up to 8m (26ft), so it covers the 1000 and the 1500 only. For a 9m boat we build in Signature or Stainless Steel. If you anchor offshore or keep the boat on a wet mooring, the Stainless Steel Series is worth the step up.
Classic, Signature, Or Stainless Steel
All three series share the same sealed motor design, the same self-locking worm-drive design, and warranty cover in Australia and New Zealand. Here is where they differ. The Classic Series is built up to 8m (26ft), so on this page it covers the 1000 and the 1500.
Warranty terms shown are for Australia and New Zealand. International warranty terms vary by region, contact your local distributor. Full terms are on our warranty page.
What Comes In The Box
- Pre-spliced rope and chain, matched to the model
- Backing plate
- Guide roller
- Up/down deck switch
- Circuit breaker
- Anchor swivel
- Solenoid
You will need a 12V power feed from your battery, a drill, and a couple of hours. Installation guides and wiring diagrams are in the instruction manuals section.
EFF™: The Electronic Fast Fall System
The Electronic Fast Fall System speeds the motor up on the way down, almost as fast as dropping the anchor freely. It is clutch-free, patented, and was released in 2011.
The standard EFF™ kit, wired or wireless, fits drum winches up to and including the 2000. That covers all three models on this page.
If you anchor in deeper water or exposed conditions, it is worth having. Ask us and we will confirm the right kit for the model you are speccing.
Pairing Your Winch With The Right Anchor
For a 7m to 9m boat in typical Australian conditions, you are looking at a 14kg to 20kg anchor. Expect the 20kg end by 9m. Hull weight, freeboard, and where you anchor all move that.
SAV Slider™: sandy and muddy bottoms. Sets fast, and a good general-purpose choice for open bays and coastal anchorages.
Delta Slider™: exposed anchorages with harder ground and rougher conditions. A good match if you are running offshore in swell and current.

The links below go to the Signature Series. Every model here is also built in Stainless Steel, and the 1000 and 1500 are built in Classic.

FAQs For 7m To 9m Boats
The questions we hear most from owners of centre consoles, half-cabins, and walk-arounds in this size range.
How much rope capacity do I need for this size boat?
It depends on the model. The 1000 ships 95m of 7mm double braid rope and 7m of chain. The 1500 ships 95m of 8mm and 8m of chain. The 2000 ships 140m of 8mm and 10m of chain. Rope length sets the limit on how deep you can anchor, because you pay out several times the water depth. If you regularly anchor deep, the 2000 gives you the most rode of the three.
Is the EFF™ system worth paying for?
For a day boat that anchors occasionally in calm water, probably not. For a boat that goes offshore, anchors in a chop, or is often short-handed at the bow, yes. EFF™ drives the motor faster on the way down, so the anchor reaches the bottom sooner. The standard EFF™ kit fits models up to and including the 2000, which covers every winch on this page.
What battery setup do I need?
Boats in this range often have larger battery banks already, which works in your favour. A 1000, 1500, or 2000 draws significant current during retrieval, especially under load. You want a dedicated circuit, appropriately rated cable runs, and a circuit breaker sized to the motor. Call us before you order and we will walk through what your setup needs.
Can I use this winch with a larger anchor than the recommended range?
Each model is rated to a hull size, and the anchor should follow the hull. The 1000 is rated to 7m, the 1500 to 8m, and the 2000 to 10m. If your anchor sits at the heavy end for your hull, step up a model rather than push the smaller one. An undersized winch runs at its limit under sustained load, and that shortens its service life.
