Serious Anchoring Starts With The Right Winch
Flybridges, sportfishers, pilothouse vessels. At this size, anchoring is not a light-duty job.
- 2000 / 3000 Recommended series
- 20kg to 35kg Anchor weight range
- 9m to 14m Hull length
Why Hull Length Matters
A 10m flybridge cruiser or a 13m sportfisher does not anchor like a day boat. The weight is greater, the anchor is heavier, the water is often deeper, and the conditions are rarely sheltered. A winch that suits a 7m centre console will be undersized and overworked on a hull this size.
Two models cover this range. The 2000 is rated to 10m (33ft) and the 3000 is rated to 14m (46ft). Pick the model whose rating is at or above your hull length. Both are built in Signature and Stainless Steel. The Classic Series is built up to 8m (26ft), so it is not an option at this size.
Which Model Fits Your Boat
Savwinch 2000 series: boats up to 10m (33ft)
419mm wide, 306mm high, 28.25kg. Suits hulls from 9m to 10m, the bottom of this range. Includes 140m of 8mm double braid rope and 10m of chain.
Savwinch 3000 series: boats up to 14m (46ft)
500mm wide, 331mm high, 31.55kg. Suits hulls above 10m and up to 14m (46ft). The rope kit is custom, so we set the rope and chain with you.
If the boat lives on a wet mooring or works offshore most weeks, specify the Stainless Steel Series. Its gearbox is 316 stainless steel, where the Signature gearbox is aluminium.
How The Three Series Compare
All three series share the same sealed motor design, the same self-locking worm-drive design, and warranty cover in Australia and New Zealand. Here is where they differ. The Classic Series is built up to 8m (26ft), so at this hull size we build in Signature or Stainless Steel.
Warranty terms shown are for Australia and New Zealand. International warranty terms vary by region, contact your local distributor. Full terms are on our warranty page.
What Comes In The Box
- Pre-spliced rope and chain, matched to the model
- Backing plate
- Guide roller
- Up/down deck switch
- Circuit breaker
- Anchor swivel
- Solenoid
The 2000 ships 140m of 8mm double braid rope and 10m of chain. The 3000 rope kit is custom, so we set the rope and chain with you when you order.
You will need a power feed from your battery bank, a drill, and appropriately rated cable for your installation. On larger hulls, cable run length matters. Wiring diagrams and install guides are in the instruction manuals section. Call us before you install and we will walk through it for your setup.
EFF™: The Electronic Fast Fall System
The Electronic Fast Fall System speeds the motor up on the way down, almost as fast as dropping the anchor freely. It is clutch-free, patented, and was released in 2011.
The standard EFF™ kit fits drum winches up to and including the 2000. Above that, the heavy-duty kit covers the 3000 series and up. Both models on this page can be specced with fast fall. Choose the winch by hull length, and we will match the kit to it.
Boats this size anchor in deeper water, often in swell or current, and often with the crew busy elsewhere. That is where a faster drop earns its keep.
Pairing Your Winch With The Right Anchor
For a 9m to 14m boat in typical Australian conditions, you are looking at a 20kg to 35kg anchor. Hull weight, freeboard, and where you anchor all move that.
Delta Slider™: exposed offshore anchorages. Heavier construction, built for harder ground and rougher water.
For mixed ground or sheltered coastal anchoring, the SAV Slider™ or Claw Slider™ may suit, depending on the bottom.

The links below go to the Signature Series. Both models are also built in Stainless Steel. The Classic Series is built up to 8m (26ft), so it does not cover this range.

FAQs For 9m To 14m Boats
The questions we hear most from owners of flybridge cruisers, sportfishers, and pilothouse vessels in this size range.
What size anchor and winch does a 9m to 14m boat need?
A hull in this range carries significant weight and windage, so the anchor has to hold in conditions that send smaller boats home. A 20kg to 35kg anchor is the typical range, depending on displacement and where you anchor most. The winch has to match the hull, which is why the 2000 and the 3000 are the starting point at this size. The 2000 is rated to 10m and the 3000 to 14m.
Is a Savwinch suitable for commercial charter use at this size?
For a vessel that is earning money we would point you at our Commercial range first. The Commercial L is rated 8m to 12m and the Commercial XL 9m to 14m. In the drum winch range, the Stainless Steel Series is the one to specify. Its gearbox is 316 stainless steel, and it carries our longest AU/NZ warranty of the three series. Call Head Office and we will work out which suits your vessel.
Can I run a dual anchor setup on a vessel this size?
Yes, and it is a practical consideration for larger cruising vessels anchoring in tight or exposed spots. A dual setup typically means two winches on separate bows, each running its own anchor. The configuration depends on your bow layout and how you intend to use it. Call Head Office to plan it properly.
Are these winches compatible with 24V systems?
Tell us your system voltage when you order and we will confirm what we can supply for your model. Do not run a 12V winch on a 24V system. It will damage the motor.
How do I size the cable run for a larger vessel?
On a boat of 10m or more, the cable run from your battery bank to the bow can be significant. Voltage drop over long cable runs reduces motor performance and puts the wiring under stress. We can walk through this with you before installation.
